Teardrops On The Empty Lawn

I have seen the teardrops on the empty lawn
As the sprinklers mist across the fog at dawn
As the birds awake to sing their song
I have seen the empty lawn and yawned

As you left the coffee cup upon the sink
I have sat down on the porch to think
I have watched you drive away and blinked
As you left our stink upon the brink

I have wished the words back in my mouth
As you stormed again out of the house
As everything in the whole world turned south
I have wished the words back into my mouth

As I have seen the teardrops on the empty lawn
I have learned to listen diligently to country songs
I have learned to roll over again at dawn
As I submit willingly to the wisdom of a yawn.
